Year 5

I would like to welcome you all back to the 3rd Term of the academic year. The Year 5’s have settled back into their routines and have been delighted with the addition of a new classmate named Reda.

During English lessons, students have been reading, researching, drafting and writing Explanation texts. They have been using flow charts to sequence events together and explain how and why certain things happen.

During Math lessons, students have been focusing on fractions! In particular, adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions, converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers, and interpreting and solving worded problems.

During Science lessons, our focus has been living things- plants and animals. In their groups, students have participated in a few experiments such as growing algae in jars and observing how plants absorb water-using celery sticks, food dye and water.

During PE lessons, we have begun participating in the Winter Schools Sports program playing soccer. So far we have had the opportunity to verse other Year 5 and 6 students from different schools in the Goulburn Valley. So far students have loved this experience and look forward to future matches.

Kind Regards,
Miss Funda Avan
